Cara Lee Neville - Personal Statement

I am honored and thank all the lawyers who voted me as best mediator in the lawyer reader survey the last seven years.  I am proud and honored to have served as a member of the Minnesota Judiciary for over 30 years. For the last twelve years, I have enjoyed working with lawyers and litigants to resolve their disputes in a more confidential, less confrontational and less expensive forum than courtroom litigation.

Whether it is mediation, arbitration, summary jury trials, third party administration, or help of a special master to decide issues including  the resolution of discovery disputes, I believe ADR provides more control, flexibility and confidentiality than the traditional adversary process.

When our world suddenly changed due to the pandemic, I knew it was important to my clients that they continue to resolve their disputes, but in a new way.  I knew they didn't want to travel or sit in an enclosed conference room to do so, so I took numerous private classes from a nationally renowned expert on online mediation.  My clients were so pleased that I provided a free online tutorial before our mediation that they, again, voted in support of me and Benchmark in the Minnesota Lawyer survey.

After 30 plus years on the bench working with thousands of litigants and lawyers, I have become tenacious in exploring settlements to which both parties can voluntarily agree. I will spend the time necessary and work to help you reach a settlement without the increased costs, contentiousness and delays of court room litigation. I am uniquely positioned to bring to the table not only years of experience in the law, but also the insight into the personal issues which actually surround conflicts. My goal is to assist parties in bringing their disputes to a mutually satisfactory resolution in a timely manner.

I will first discuss and analyze with you the best process of ADR for your dispute and will recognize any deadlines you feel are important to meet. I will work on your preferred schedule. I look forward to assisting you in your ADR needs as a qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice, specializing in mediation, arbitration or serving as a special master, third party administrator, or special trial judge as the need arises.

Sincerely,

Cara Lee Neville,
